This talk will explore Irish cultural identity as it currently stands at the beginning of the 21st century. Each persons individual sense of cultural identity is informed by many influences including popular culture, family and historical background.
This talk deals with the perceptions of Irish culture from an external standpoint in light of recent cultural phenomena (eg. Riverdance), but also probes the essential nature of Irish identity.
The influence of post-colonial modes of thinking upon contemporary Ireland is also explored
There will be time for discussion and dialogue to explore and develop various themes at the end of the talk.
